Lebanon Arrivals

Well I got called out to my first late night news event on Tuesday night. A new reporter who had just moved from the Journal got a call from a local MLA of Lebanese decent who tipped her off that a flight was arriving at the airport at about 12:30, so we headed out. The officials at the private hangar wouldn't let me inside to take pictures, so I did the best I could outside as people collected their luggage after a long journey home.

Miscarriage

Well, Calgary finally hit one million people yesterday, so there were a lot of stories about that, along with this one on a couple who had to deal with a "nightmare" experience at the hospital last week. Shot with natural window-light, it seemed like to sensitive a picture to use flash and luckily I had some window light in this situation, which is extremely rare .Calgary, AB-20060724-.Rose Lundy, with her husband Rick, had to wait three hours to move beyond the waiting room at the Peter Lougheed Centre last Tuesday despite bleeding in her chair. FFF

Well, after breaking my wide angle, and having the Herald's old 20-35 meet the same fate, I am now using a canon for my wide angle stuff. And I am loving it. The switch begins. If your interested in Nikon Gear, drop me a line because I will be selling a ton of it.
Here we have a Fatal, a Feature, and Football. And yes they cropped the foot out of the picture, no bodies appear on the pages of the Herald.

Concerts

Well there have been some fairly big acts at Stampede this year, and yours truly has been sent out to shoot most of them. Concerts are always fun, Rain Maida of Our Lady peace brought me up on stage before they started playing, which was cool. Alan Jackson last night was good, there were about 20,000 screaming women surrounding me, which makes things interesting.

Planes, Choppers, and.... Supertramp

Here are some shots from Wednesday, I had a break from the Stampede Grounds. The first assignment was to update our photo files on Westjet/Air Canada planes , so I got to go hang out up in the control tower at Calgary International Airport and take photos of planes for a few hours. After that, I headed up to the Stampede RoundUp which is a huge stampede party, which Roger Hodgson was the main act. I liked the picture because typically you don't get access to that angle behind the scenes, and it was more of a quiet moment that went with the Supertramp songs he was singing. And finally I went feature hunting for the last hours of my shift as the light was beautiful, and ended up with some silhouettes (hey I can't control where the sun sets) which I was fairly happy with. Seeing that Griffin helicopter fly around was pretty cool , although I was unable to secure a ride in it. Maybe next time.Calgary, AB-20060612-.Two WestJet Boeing 737's prepare for lift-off on the tarmac of the Calgary International Airport Wednesday afternoon. Photo by Brett Beadle/Calgary Herald

Calgary, AB-20060612-. Roger Hodgson of Supertramp fame was a definite crowd-pleaser at this year's Stampede Roundup at Fort Calgary. More Rodeo

Well had another day off where I went down to the Stampede grounds to take in some Rodeo action...Tomorrow I think I am going to get out my wranglers and a cowboy hat and get into the pit with some of these beasts.

Calgary Stampede Action

Well headed down the the Rodeo and Chuckwagons on my day off and had a lot of fun. Hoping to get some more stuff today, but here are some of the shots from about 3 gigs worth of shooting yesterday. Ted Rhodes got the front page today from the same steer wrestling as the last picture, but he was down at ground level in the pits which made for some nice mud-flying action. His photo Here

What A Party!

Well I roamed down to Sal's on 17th to get the end of the FIFA World Cup final. Calgary's Italian population is a lot larger than it's French, so I thought it was a safe bet. This little guy brought his own tv out of his room out to the patio of Sal's so everyone could watch the game, because it was so packed inside. Both myself and Herald intern reporter Brad Linn looked at each other and said "what a great job" as we were amongst the swarms of people celebrating the Azzurri victory.

Star-Struck

Well last night was the Nelly Furtado concert at the Coca-Cola stage on the Stampede Grounds. And who else but Mr. Don Johnson showed up to take in the show. Back to work.

Well I had a crazy busy and fun day today, and hoped that I would get A1 or City Front but didn't happen (again.) Oh well, just gotta keep plugging away. These are five of the 31 pictures I filed from the day. Benito the spider monkey was a fun assignment, and checking out the activites at COP was fun as well. The rest of the photos

Here are the other four I couldn't fit in the first post.
My new friend Jorge Castillo, from Columbia, who was in the Park with the rest of his family on vacation from their home in Calgary.
Jorge and his grandson Diego ride their bikes down the street. The Mountain Vista Apartment Building. What a beautiful place. Not to mention the models that frequent it.

Watch out Jim Natchway. These are some hungry, hard-working photojournalists.

Until next time, goodbye Pincher Creek.
