Bertha Speaks Out.

Bertha Williams, who was born and raised on the Tsawwassen First Nation reserve, is troubled by some aspects of the final agreement reached between the band and the provincial and federal governments.

Dear Bertha,

Good on you. Nice to see somebody from your background who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I appreciate the fact that you seem to care for others in your community, non natives included. While i certainly want to see you and your people get a fair deal, I think that one has to take in the overall impact to the community. I remember the Tsawwassen reserve as a small community within a larger community. Having spent my youth in Ladner, I was friends with many from the "reserve". I spent a lot of time there as well, visiting my friends, the Williams family mainly, Bertha, Mable, Wally, Chief (Harold Jr.) and the rest of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were wonderful people. I was always most welcome to come into their home. I felt more like a relative than a friend. I guess this is why, when I read Bertha's comments in the Optimist, I tended to agree with her. I know her and her family. I can't say the same for a lot of the people running the band now. Good luck Bertha and say hello to the rest of your family from an old friend.
